Jere Thorne passed away while diving his closed circuit rebreather in Louise Pit, a flooded ore pit in Northern Minnesota on Sunday August 27, 2006 at approximately 10:30 am. The dive was recreational in nature and the accident is under investigation so details are not available at this time.
Jere was a very close friend and traveled with me on several ccr expeditions including Cocos, Truk Lagoon, Lake Superior and more… he had a passion for diving that he loved to share with people he met. Jere trained to the level of scuba instructor with several advanced diving specialties, including a recent certification through Diveheart to assist handicapped people in learning to dive. One special project Jere was working on was to assist a diver with Duschenens Muscular Dystrophy in his attempts to make an open ocean dive.
Jere left behind a daughter Rosiland, granddaughter and a very special friend Lisa.
