From : tj - 26.05.2003 - 23:42 At the request of his wife Julie Henson, I`m posting this information about the untimely death of Chris Henson. He died Friday evening while diving at Cow Springs. Details (if there are anymore) will be posted after the family learns them. Please be patient while the authorities do their job.
Chris was supposed to help set up the Cave Diver`s Forum booth at the NSS CDS workshop Saturday but he had decided to get in a cave dive the evening before. I guess he didn`t find anyone to dive with, so he did it alone. He was wearing doubles, carried a buddy bottle, and picked a cave he was comfortable and familiar with. Chris was approximately 1100 feet into the cave, heading out. This was a usual turning point for him in this cave. When his wife Julie showed up to also help with the booth, and found him missing, she started calling around to see where he might be. Special thanks to Cathy Lesh and friends for helping with the search for his vehicle and to the IUCRR for their quick response and efforts in the recovery.
Many of us got to dive with Chris over the past few years. He loved cave diving and this forum. Chris was a really nice person, quiet, soft spoken, and a very loyal friend to many of us. Many of us will mourn his passing. He was such a good and meticulous diver. This should not have happened, but it did.
We will post a funeral notice once one is set. There will be a fund started for Chris soon and that information will also be posted here.
