Kanadischer Taucher vermisst Abgesandt von Jessica am 26.06.2002 - 19:42:
TOBERMORY -- A 33-year-old Kitchener man is missing in Georgian Bay after he and eight others went diving to study a shipwreck near Tobermory on Sunday. Scott Jamieson was diving near the wreck on the northeast side of Bear`s Rump Island in Fathom Five National Marine Park.
Const. Dave Meyer of Bruce Peninsula OPP said he went missing at about 3 p.m.
Meyer said the man was deep-water diving with the other eight divers, some of them from Waterloo Region.
When he didn`t return to the surface, the operator of the dive boat called for help. Wardens from Bruce Peninsula National Park rushed to the scene.
Jamieson`s dive partner, a 38-year-old Kitchener woman, was taken ashore and treated by paramedics, but police gave no details of her injuries.
Dave Sheppard, Jamieson`s landlord on Wellington Street, said Jamieson had just recently earned his licence for deep-water diving and had been looking forward to putting it to use.
"That`s terrible news," Sheppard said last night. "It`s not looking good."
Sheppard said Jamieson works at Budd Canada, a Kitchener auto-parts maker. He moved into his upstairs apartment last fall.
"I`m hoping they still find him, and confirm it at least," he said, describing Jamieson as an "excellent guy."
Meyer said OPP divers were to continue their search, but high waves and heavy rain stopped them yesterday morning.
Briggs said the depth of the water is a problem because divers cannot stay for long periods of time in water more than 30 metres (100 feet) deep.
Briggs said rescue officers are using a roving machine that can visually record the area without risking a diver`s safety.
