Rebreather-TU / The Cedarville Abgesandt von Armin am 03.09.2003 - 21:45:
A diver died yesterday Aug 31st diving on The Cedarville. This ship is located in 100 feet of water about 3 miles east of the Mackinac Bridge linking Michigan`s upper and lower penninsulas.
The cederville is a Great Lakes freighrer that was struck broadside in 1965 and went down with a load of limestone. The Cedarville is the second largest wreck on the Great Lakes, only to the Edmond Fitzgerald. A 50+ year old diver wearing a rebreather failed to surface on time.
A search failed to find the diver and the Coast Guard was called in. After apx 2 hours the diver was located face up, nonresponsive and nonbreathing with the mouthpiece in his mouth. He was a few feet of the starbord side of the stern on the lake floor.
The Cedarville rests at about a 45 degree angle upside down on her starbord side. Depth at the keel is about 60 feet and the floor is 110 feet in 44 degree water. I`ll post more information as it becomes available.
