Former BSAC rebreather chief instructor Penny Glover is feared dead after going missing on a dive in the South of France on Monday 21 November. Penny, 42, and her buddy were diving with friends in Hyeres in the Mediterranean, when they both disappeared.
The French coast guard said a search was continuing for the two divers, however, was unable to release any further details.
Penny first learned to dive in 1986 and became a highly experienced and respected technical diver and BSAC volunteer. An instructor trainer for semi-closed and closed-circuit rebreathers, she was instrumental in developing the first-ever rebreather courses for BSAC launched this year.
`It is extremely sad,` BSAC chairman Marcus Allen told DIVE. `Penny gave so much to the club for so many years and was highly regarded in the diving community. It is a great loss to diving. Our thoughts go out to friends and family of both divers.`
Clare Peddie, BSAC`s national diving officer, added: `This is an extremely sad loss for all of us who have been privileged to know Penny. Her warmth and kindness will be so deeply missed. Penny was a leading light in the BSAC.`

Deux plongeurs disparus en Méditerranée, recherches infructueuses
Deux plongeurs, une Britannique résidant dans le Var et un Français habitant en Allemagne, ont disparu lundi au large de l`île de Porquerolles (Var) et les recherches menées jusqu`à présent sont restées infructueuses, a indiqué mardi la préfecture maritime de Toulon. "Les recherches ont été menées de manière large avec un hélicoptère, un chasseur de mines et une vedette qui a patrouillé le long des côtes mais elles sont restées infructueuses", a déclaré un porte-parole de la préfecture maritime. Il a précisé que les deux disparus étaient des plongeurs confirmés, âgés d`une quarantaine d`années. Les recherches pour les retrouver ont été interrompues mardi dans l`après-midi en raison d`une météo défavorable, a indiqué la préfecture maritime sans pouvoir préciser quand elles reprendraient.

Zwei Taucher vermisst im Mittelmeer, Suche erfolglos.
Zwei Taucher, eine Engländerin wohnhaft im Department Var und ein Franzose wohnhaft in Deutschland sind seit Montag vermisst im Küstengebiet von Porquerolles und die eingeleitete Suche ist bis zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt erfolglos.
Bei der eingeleitete Suche waren ein Helikopter und ein Minensuchern weiter draußen eingesetzt und ein Schnellboot der Marine patroulierte in Küstennähe aber alle Massnahmen blieben fruchtlos, erklärte ein Sprecher der Marine Prefektur, Genauer sagte er es handelte sich bei den beiden Vermissten um fortgeschrittene Taucher im Alter von um die 40. Die Suche nach den Vermissten wurde am Dienstagnachmittag auf Grund der ungünstigen Wetterverhältnisse unterbrochen erklärte die Marine Prefektur ohne genau sagen zu können wann sie wieder aufgenommen wird.

The search for BSAC rebreather diver Penny Glover has been called off by the French coastguard. The former BSAC rebreather chief instructor and her buddy, Jacques Filippi, went missing following a rebreather trimix dive in Porquerolles in the South of France on Monday 21 November.
According to reports, the divers had deployed an SMB, but failed to return to the surface. Coast guards in the Mediterranean resort were called immediately. However, an extensive search for the divers was hampered by bad weather and was called off Wednesday afternoon.

BSAC is to open a book of condolence for national instructor Penny Glover, who went missing from trimix dive in the South of France on Monday 21 November. Penny, 42, and her buddy, Jacques Filippi, were diving with friends in Porquerolles, when they both disappeared.
‘The book will give everyone who knew Penny an opportunity to say a final few words and hopefully for her family to gain some solace from understanding the impact of her loss on the whole diving community,’ said BSAC national diving officer Clare Peddie.
The book will be located at BSAC’s headquarters in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire from Monday 28 November until Friday 2 December. It will then be taken to the BSAC Diving Officers’ Conference at the Institute of Education, London University, on Saturday 3 December.
Peddie said the book will be placed in the downstairs foyer outside the main hall of the conference and will be accessible to people not attending the conference.
For those who are unable to attend either venue, BSAC is planning to gather electronic messages of condolences. Email inmemory@bsac.com.
Antwort von AML am 30.11.2005 - 17:40 Es war wohl ein 80 m Trimix TG mit 14/50 als Bottom Mix, zum Einsatz kam ein Buddy Inspiration (classic?) und ein Evolution CCR, ruhige Bedingungen wenig Seegang. Die beiden, Jaques und Penny kannten sich wohl von Holland.
Was passiert ist weiss keiner, noch nicht einmal Vermutungen. Penny wurde aber vom Rest der Truppe in der Nähe der Schottline gesehen. Man ging davon aus, dass das Team Filippi/Glover auch mit dem Aufstieg beginnen würde. Glovers Boje hing da wohl eine Zeit im Wasser, aber man ging davon aus, dass die beiden Ihre Grundzeit ein bisschen überschritten hatten und deswegen länger DEKO machen mussten. Dann haben Sie an der Boje gezogen und nur 50 m Leine hochgeholt... (Von wegen auf 50 m getaucht und nachgesehen...) Wär auch Wahnsinn gewesen nach einem Trimix TG.
Die Gegend da wird langsam zu Bermuda Dreieck der unerklärlichen Vorfälle.
Fakt ist: Hier waren sicherlich keine Anfänger am Werk Jaques war auch Instructor, ob auf dem BI, weiss ich nicht - ein 80 m TMX TG ist zwar kein Spaziergang, aber auch nichts weltbewegendes.
Das Beide spurlos weg sind ist ein starkes Stück und sollte denen zu denken geben die die ganze Thematik auf die leichte Schulter nehmen, zumindest zum Wohle Ihrer Schüler.

Seit dem 02. Januar 2006 sehen wir ein Schiff von Ifremer direkt am Sec Caramel/ Sec Sarranier im Schneckentempo rauf und runter fahren, sie suchen immer noch die beiden vermissten Inspiration Taucher in -80m Tiefe. Die Marine hat aufgegeben .

Penny Glover, one of the most experienced divers in the UK, has not been seen since she and her diving partner Jacques Filippi took part in a dive off the south coast of France on Monday, November 21.
Last week, the official search for Miss Glover was called off.
The 42-year-old diver grew up in the Beccles area and her family still live in the Waveney area.
Her brother-in-law, Jon Denny, of Halesworth, said the family was still trying to come to terms with the tragic event and had to accept that Penny`s body may never be recovered.
"It is a difficult time for all of us. My wife Fiona has lost a sister and Penny`s parents have lost a daughter," he said.
Mr and Mrs Denny are preparing to join Penny`s parents, Michael and Jenny Glover, in France after Christmas.
"We will try to finalise matters as best we can by working with the French authorities. It is a complicated matter to sort out Penny`s estate as her body has not been recovered and French law is different to the law in this country," said Mr Denny.
The family will attempt to sort out the complicated administration matters as a result of Penny`s death as they believe it will help them come to terms with the tragedy.
"The search for the two bodies was called off last week but we have nothing but praise for the efforts of the French authorities," said Mr Denny.
"At great expense they even used a mini-submarine in the search but unfortunately nothing was found," he said.
The two divers were lost in deep water between the south coast of France and the island of Porquerolles.
It is not known what went wrong as both divers were highly experienced. It is yet another aspect of Miss Glover`s disappearance that they are having to come to terms with - the knowledge that they may never even know how she died or what went so badly wrong.
Miss Glover was a qualified rebreather instructor and one of the British Sub Aqua Club`s top divers.
She was brought up at Tofts Monks, near Beccles, and attended the Sir John Leman High School at Beccles.
Two memorial services celebrating her life, one in this country and one in France, are being planned in the New Year.

A week-long search funded by the French government failed to find the missing divers, so Filippi’s family commissioned marine contractors Comex to continue searching with remotely operated vehicles (ROVs). Glover and Filippi were found this morning by an ROV and their bodies were subsequently recovered by a police diving team. Both were still wearing all their dive kit – sources close to the investigation say they almost certainly ran into difficulties during the ascent.
According to the local Gendarmerie, the bodies were found 500m off Caramel Reef, the site they had been diving when they went missing, at a depth of 60m. They have since been officially identified as Glover and Filippi, and an official enquiry has been launched.
